Due to Brexit, plans have been made to redistribute the UK’s 73 MEP seats at the European Parliament. As a result, Ireland will gain an additional two seats. In preparation for this major change, an independent committee has been established by the Irish government to review the current MEP constituencies in Ireland. A period of public consultation was recently held on the issue.
CAJ’s response to this consultation (which has now closed) can be read here: submission-european-parliament-constituencies
In our response, we stress that the Committee’s work should factor in commitments previously made by the EU and the UK for the continued exercise of EU rights in Northern Ireland after Brexit.
