Preventing misogynistic crime, the Scottish model
Sponsor Naomi Long MLA, and co-sponsors Sinéad Ennis MLA and Diane Forsythe MLA, invite you to attend this Equality Coalition seminar on ‘Preventing misogynistic crime, the Scottish model’.
Keynote speaker: Baroness Helena Kennedy KC
Chair: Patricia McKeown, Regional Secretary, UNISON, and Co-Convener of the Equality Coalition
Earlier this year, the Working Group on Misogyny and Criminal Justice in Scotland produced the report, Misogyny – A Human Rights Issue, authored by Baroness Helena Kennedy KC. This report provides a blueprint for tackling misogynistic crime through the criminal law.
Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, the Department of Justice (DoJ) recently conducted a first stage consultation seeking views on the inclusion of misogyny in relation to a future hate crime bill, following an independent review of hate crime legislation.
At this in-person seminar, Baroness Kennedy will present on the new Scottish model and we will reflect on its potential application in NI. Lunch will be provided at the start of the event.
This seminar follows on from a previous webinar about the model, which was held in June this year by the Equality Coalition in conjunction with members of the Women’s Policy Group NI and Coalition Against Hate Crimes Ireland.
