Workshop on digital best practice for NGOs

Note: Registration has closed
Event Date(s): November 7, 2023
Time: 10am to 1pm
Event Type: In Person Event
Event Venue: UNISON, Belfast
Policy Area(s):Increased Equality
Keywords:Digital Rights

Our choice of technology is not neutral. We routinely use apps, software and hardware which abuse basic rights to privacy, monetise and weaponise our data, and amass power for both state and corporate actors with a track record of violating human rights.

Join Ireland’s first tech cooperative, rabble.coop, at a free introductory workshop organised by the Equality Coalition, which will provide practical tips on:

  • Avoiding big tech platforms in our work, activist circles, and personal lives by opting for alternatives which prioritise privacy, security, and autonomy;
  • Taking basic measures to promote digital security to safeguard data;
  • Using bespoke software to become more targeted and effective in our activism, lessening our dependency on big tech.

Participants are asked to bring along phones (in particular Android devices) and/or laptops – although neither are essential! Lunch will be served at the end of the session.

Registration is via this form: https://forms.gle/ZHpgmK8CvdMPEWq68. The workshop is free, but please be aware that this training is pitched specifically at NGOs.

If you have any questions about this workshop, please email equalitycoalition@caj.org.uk. The Equality Coalition is co-convened  by CAJ and UNISON.
