In January 2022, the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner published Revised Recommendations for public consultation on the number, boundaries, and names of the 11 local government districts, as well as the wards into which each district is sub-divided. This submission is a joint response to the revised recommendations from CAJ and Conradh na Gaeilge (CnaG).
In our submission, we urge the Commissioner, who is to submit a final report in May 2022, to reconsider her current position and instead recommend the adoption of bilingual English-Irish names for each of the council districts, and also for wards where there is demand for bilingual naming or where the ward name is derived from Irish (or Scots).
